But there are many foods that diabetics should not eat:

  1. Sugar, honey, sugar-containing desserts.

    All foods that contain sugar should be excluded from the diet of people with diabetes.

    Sweet eaters will have a hard time, because this group includes chocolate, candy, marmalade, ice cream and jams.

    But do not despair: modern cookery offers people who adhere to the diet, a lot of options for the “right” desserts.

    To find them in the store is not always easy, but it is quite realistic to prepare yourself.
  2. Corn.

    Most diabetics are familiar with the term “glycemic index”.

    It refers to influence of carbohydrates of a certain product on the blood glucose level of the patient.

    Corn, a favorite of many, has an index of 70.2.

    By comparison, the sweet dessert has an index of 80.

    This is why corn is strictly forbidden to diabetic patients, including as cereal, granola, and popcorn.
  3. Melon and other fruits that are high in fast carbohydrates.

    The list, fortunately, is short: bananas, pineapples, watermelon, melon, mangoes, dates, figs, and raisins.

    Diabetic patients should stay as far away from these fruits (and dried fruits) as possible.
  4. Potatoes and beets.

    Diabetics should also be careful with vegetables, because some of them dramatically raise blood glucose levels.

    Potatoes, beets, and pumpkin – refrain from eating these vegetables.
  5. Yogurts and fatty sour cream

    When choosing dairy products, their fat content should guide people with type 2 diabetes.

    Sweet yogurts, curds, fatty sour cream and cheese are not the best choice.

    Other dairy and fermented dairy products are allowed and even recommended.
  6. Fast food.

    With this type of food, everything is crystal clear and there are no exceptions – something strictly forbidden fast food to diabetics.

    In fact, as well as everyone else who appreciates their health and does not want to get digestive problems and overweight.
  7. Juices and alcohol.

    If the label says that the juice has low sugar content, then it should be understood: “juice has a relatively acceptable sugar content for a healthy person.

    But for diabetics, store-bought juices are forbidden at all. It is the same with alcohol: even if the drink does not taste sweet, its sugar content is often off the charts.
Menu for a week with diabetes mellitus

Type 2 diabetes requires an individualized menu, so if you are diagnosed with this disease, be sure to see your doctor.

The following menus for diabetes are examples.

MONDAY.

First breakfast: Omelette with two egg whites and one egg yolk.

Veal sandwich.

Small tomato.

Tea or some Aerobic tea.

Snack: Natural yogurt with chia seeds.

Lunch: Mashed mushroom soup. Baked chicken breast with pumpkin garnish.

Slice of bread.

Afternoon snack: Half a grapefruit and natural yogurt.

Dinner: Boiled broccoli with sour cream, fantasies fillet.

Second dinner: A glass of kefir and a baked apple.

WEDNESDAY.

First breakfast: Stewed stuffed cabbage rolls with sour cream.

A slice of bread and a glass of tea or coffee.

Snack: Vanilla crouton and a glass of berry compote.

Pasta with fish stew.

Afternoon snack: Celery salad with mustard and walnuts.

Dinner: Casserole made of fat-free cottage cheese.

Rosehip decoction.

The second dinner: A glass of kefir or fruit tea without sugar.

THURSDAY.

First breakfast: Oatmeal with milk and boiled egg.

Snack: Cottage cheese, half a pear.

Tea without sugar.

Lunch: Plate of Raskolnikov (meat soup).

Stewed vegetables with meat, without potatoes

Piece of bread.

Afternoon tea: Tea with milk, without sugar, and one oatmeal cookie.

Dinner: Baked chicken or fish with a side dish of boiled green beans.

Second dinner: Apple or kefir.

FRIDAY.

First breakfast: Oatmeal with pumpkin.

Snack: Cheese sandwich. Glass of carob and milk.

Afternoon snack: Fresh berries.

Dinner: Squid stew with vegetables, a slice of bread.

Second dinner: A glass of kefir.

SATURDAY.

First breakfast: Lightly salted salmon, hard-boiled egg, a piece of bread, and fresh cucumber.

Tea without sugar.

Snack: Cheesecakes with fresh berries.

Lunch: Borscht with a piece of bread. Cabbage cutlets with stuffing.

Afternoon snack: Cheese pate with radish. Pair of crispy bread.

Dinner: Young canned peas. Boiled turkey filet. Stewed eggplants and tomatoes.

Second dinner: A glass of kefir and a baked apple.

SUNDAY.

First breakfast: Buckwheat oatmeal with water. Tea and a piece of ham.

Snack: Vanilla breadcrumbs with rosehip broth and an orange.

Lunch: A portion of fresh soup with mushrooms with sour cream and a piece of bread. Steamed beef cutlet with zucchini.

Afternoon snack: cottage cheese and 4 plums.

Dinner: Pink salmon with a side dish of spinach with balsamic vinegar and braised zucchini.

Second dinner: Natural yogurt with goji berries.

As a reminder, this is only a sample menu for the week.

Listen to your body and adjust the number and order of your meals.
